an unexpected week...

Hare Krsna everyone!

We've had quite the unexpected week...Bala Nitai (Brad) got a sinus infection, which seeped into his ear, causing him immense pain :(
We've been getting little proper rest during the nights and his days aren't much better.  He's been only half present in his classes because of it too...he went to the allopathic clinic here and didn't receive much help other than some pain meds that kick in if he is active.
We went to a local, well-loved and respected homeopathic doctor last night and received some meds there.  Since he's been taking the homeopathics, his condition has improved--he had his first cooking practicum tonight (cooking the evening offering for all the Deities!) and he felt good the whole time.  He also was well enough to fully attend his Deity dressing class today and he made a gorgeous turban...hopefully, he'll continue to be on the mends...

here's the turban!

As for me, some of the young mamas here found out I have midwifery training.  Turns out, there are 2 elder midwives here, one who is "retired" (but still attends some births) and the other who had been retired until she arrived in Mayapur and saw there was a need to open up her practice again.
The thing is, one of the midwives is super sick and the other is recovering from a terribly broken leg...and there's a mom due any day...guess who was asked to be her midwife!  I met with the mama yesterday and all seems to be a go--something I had dreamed of and let flit about in the outer recesses of my mind, but didn't deem them a reality...the midwife I'm in contact here with said that you need to be careful in Mayapur--Krsna fulfills wishes like "that!" (snap!).

Anyways, I was quite uncertain at first, especially since I've been out of the midwifery loop for sometime and never had my own practice...however, after talking with one of midwives, doing some serious self-introspection and prayer, I'm actually quite excited about this turn of events!

A doctor from S. Africa arrived today and she is all about natural childbirth--she's had OB training and actually wanted to study as a midwife.  We will most likely attend this birth together, which will be awesome--I'm hoping to meet with her tomorrow.  She's coming to Mayapur for just that--to help with births.

The midwife I'm in contact with (Krishna Laulia) and the doctor from S. Africa (Gauri) are actually about to launch into a brainstorming session that will lay the groundwork for a wonderful and much needed service here in Mayapur--a professional birth center, staffed with trained midwives and apprentices.  I'm blessed to be included in this vision--I'll keep you posted!

We have several friends here who said they'll care for Nitai if needed while I'm attending the birth--jaya!

missing you all,
grdd & bnd.

Hare Krishna,

I am so glad that you got to get involved in midwifery in which you are soooooooo good( from my personal eperience). I will never forget the empowering birth that I had with Gaur and I am glad that you were there to hold him. I am so so sure that you would be a wonderful wonderful midwife. All thanks to Krishna for showering his wonderful mercy on all of those beautiful mothers who are going to get your support.
